Pathologic (2005)

General

  • Tell me what you want and I shall tell you who you are.
  • My heart hurts.
  • I am tired to death.
  • I am too old. Nothing will spoil me.
  • I feel almost nothing.
  • People die more often only because they cannot oppose death.
  • By old age, people become more reckless and wiser.
  • Very few are able to comprehend what death is. In most cases people choose death not by a considered intention, but by stupidity and an established custom.
  • Even the most famous act cannot be named great if it is not a consequence of the great plan.

Day 1

  • (Bachelor) So, the Saburovs have rendered protection to some Devotress. Who is she?
  • (Bachelor) The Town would accept death from the murderer of Simon. This is doubtless.
  • (Changeling) I hope Vlad will expose this Ripper. The murderer has named himself the son of Burah.
  • (Changeling) I feel a threat in you, child. You are not like us.

Day 2

  • (Bachelor) He is a courageous man, this Haruspicus. A worthy son of Isidor.
  • (Bachelor) Who in the Town will take the place of Simon? Nobody. Brain was taken out of the head, and heart from the chest.
  • (Haruspex) No, Simon cannot be replaced by anybody.
  • (Haruspex) The Saburovs have entered the struggle for power. Heh... this is really ridiculous.

Day 3

  • (Bachelor) Olgimsky has declared an award for capture of each escaped butcher. What does this cheat want to hide?
  • (Bachelor / Changeling) Who could think of that? We are threatened with the epidemic of plague. That's what his retreat meant.
  • (Changeling) Oglimsky [sic] gets rid of witnesses. He has got a good friend in Haruspicus.

Day 4

  • (Bachelor) What happens to Simon? I feel he is not dead yet. His soul has not separated from the body.
  • (Bachelor) The Town changes every minute, as if someone cuts it part by part.

Day 5

  • (Bachelor) So that's how Rubin did. Quite in the spirit of his Teacher. Only the Teacher strangled the First Flash. And Stakh spec- And Stakh spent the precious blood in vain.
  • (Bachelor) What did she need in the Cathedral? There is nobody to be cured there. The diseased are taken outside.
  • (Changeling) So, why is this called land plague? Don't you really know it, daughter?

Day 6

  • (Bachelor) The Inquisitor counts on it that you will point the side to be stricken, right?
  • (Bachelor) Catherina should not have expelled Devotress. Clara is her true continuation. Even if her own daughter would not be closer to her.

Day 7

  • (Bachelor) Saburov is no more the commandant. And I am no more a judge. Who are we, then? Puppets in her hands?
  • (Bachelor) They say this Burakh has managed to create panchea. Good fellow.

Day 8

  • (Bachelor) We have no more independence. The magic tower will be crushed. The Inquisitor will transform us into the most usual settlement- into a Town of People.
  • (Bachelor) Burakh has made the last step. Probably he will speak about father with the Elder. Madman!

Day 9

  • (Bachelor) The Sleeping Group has coped with the task. Polyhedron is alive. This is obvious.
  • (Bachelor) You do not know what is inside the Tower. It's a pity you would never know this, I'm afraid.
  • (Changeling) The Inquisitor ignores the General. This is a good sign. But the Bachelor is on her side. She has overplayed him. Would he believe us now?

Day 10

  • (Haruspex) So it is true? If the bull appeared, that was a sign. But what if it was man-made?
  • (Haruspex) Clara has appeared to be more artful than I thought. She has stolen an exploit from Brother. Stolen another's destiny.
  • (Changeling) So, Capella has managed to convince Haruspicus. They made an agreement. And this threat is worse than the Inquisitor.
  • (Changeling) The Bachelor went to the Tower. He was there, inside. Does he really see what others do not see?

Day 11

None

Day 12

  • My branch was called 'Necrology'. I wanted to do everything so that death would never touch my precious brother.
  • To make Polyhedron work as before, I needed to live some more time. Not for the sake of my soul, but for the sake of another soul. Maria will arrange all the rest.

Pathologic Classic

General

  • Tell me what you want and I will tell you who you are.
  • I have a heartache.
  • I'm deadly tired.
  • I'm too old. Nothing can harm me anymore.
  • I feel almost nothing.
  • Most men only die because they know not how to prevent dying.
  • In growing old, we become more foolish and more wise.
  • Few people know death. We only endure it, usually from determination and even from stupidity and custom.
  • However brilliant an action, it should not be esteemed great unless the result of a great motive.

Day 1

  • (Bachelor) So the Saburovs have offered patronage to some Changeling. Who is she?
  • (Bachelor) The Town will meet its death at the hand of Simon's murderer. That much is certain.
  • (Changeling) Hopefully Vlad will call Ripper's bluff. The murderer claims to be Burakh's son.
  • (Changeling) I can feel you're a menace, child. You're not like us.

Day 2

  • (Bachelor) He's a brave man, this Haruspex. Worthy of Isidor's name.
  • (Bachelor) Who in this town can replace Simon? There's no one. The brain was removed from its head, the heart from its chest.
  • (Haruspex) No... no one can replace Simon.
  • (Haruspex) The Saburovs have joined the power struggle. That's ridiculous!

Day 3

  • (Bachelor) Olgimsky has put a bounty on any runaway butcher. What is the old fox trying to hide?
  • (Changeling) Olgimsky is getting rid of the witnesses. He's lucky to have allied himself with this Haruspex.
  • (Bachelor / Changeling) Who could have thought? A plague is staring us in the face. That's how much his demise means.

Day 4

  • (Bachelor) What's going on with Simon? I feel that he's not dead yet. His soul is still connected to the body.
  • (Bachelor) The Town is changing before our very eyes, as if someone's cutting it apart, bit by bit.

Day 5

  • (Bachelor) So that's what Rubin has done. Like master, like apprentice. But Isidor had at least strangled the First Outbreak. And Stakh's wasted the precious blood in vain.
  • (Bachelor) What does she need in the Cathedral? There's no one the heal there. The sick are taken outside.
  • (Changeling) And why is it called earth plague? Do you really know nothing about it, daughter?

Day 6

  • (Bachelor) The Inquisitor is counting on you to show her where to strike, isn't she?
  • (Bachelor) Katerina shouldn't have cast Changeling out. Clara is her true successor. Her own daughter couldn't have been closer.

Day 7

  • (Bachelor) Saburov is no longer a governor. I'm no longer a judge. Who are we, then? Her puppets?
  • (Bachelor) They say this Burakh managed to make a panacea. Good job.

Day 8

  • (Bachelor) We've lost our independence. The theurgic tower will be trampled. The Inquisitor will turn us into a common village. A Town of Men.
  • (Bachelor) And Burakh has made his final move. He'll probably talk to the Foreman about his father. Madman.

Day 9

  • (Bachelor) The Dream Party has met the challenge. The Polyhedron lives. That much is certain.
  • (Bachelor) You don't know yet what the Tower truly is on the inside. It's a shame you're unlikely to get a chance to ever find out.
  • (Changeling) The Inquisitor is ignoring the Commander. That's a good sign. But Bachelor is at one with her. She's outplayed him. Will he trust us now?

Day 10

  • (Haruspex) True! That is true! A bull appearing is indeed a sign. But what if it's man-made?
  • (Haruspex) Clara is more cunning than I thought. She stole my brother's glory. Stole a fortune that wasn't hers.
  • (Changeling) So, Capella managed to convince Haruspex to join her cause? They've made a deal. A deal more threatening than anything the Inquisitor can do.
  • (Changeling) Bachelor's been to the Tower. He's been there, inside. Could he have seen something others didn't?

Day 11

None

Day 12

  • My path was called 'Necrology'. I wanted to do everything to spare my beloved brother death.
  • I need to live some more for the Polyhedron to work as it used to; not for myself, but for another soul. Maria will take care of the rest.

Pathologic 2

  • This town has too many… reinforcement ribs.
  • In truth, I am blind. I ceased to see things long ago.
  • It's a disgrace to be illiterate. One must learn to read the signs of fate.
  • An umbilical cord connects the earth and the cosmos. It is a ladder, a spring, a bowstring. It is you.
  • A life led with purpose never ends in death. Death only comes to those who live pointlessly.
  • A soul is like a spring… or a bowstring. The harder you pull, the further your thought reaches when you release.
  • Immortality is not what people imagine it to be. It's different… you cannot achieve it without dying.
  • Links between souls… that is the way to grow. Weave your web, arachna.
  • A touch is an attentive look, or a keen word. One can touch with their hands, too—but that is a hard skill to learn.
  • The Oneirotects have met the challenge. The Polyhedron will live.
  • Tell me what you want and I will tell you who you are.
  • I'm too old. Nothing can harm me anymore.
  • Sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny.
  • Sleep without memory is a crime. We must protect the sleepers, the dreamers. The plague threatens them most of all.
  • My heart aches.
  • I'm so, so tired.
  • I can barely feel anything, these days.
  • Everything is connected. Woven together, it forms a pattern in the great design. A human weaver who makes new connections cannot be ended by death.
  • Saburov is no longer a governor. But I'm no longer a judge. Who have we become?
  • They will turn us into a common village—a town of mere men.
  • No. No one can replace Simon.
  • A handful of souls could imagine the Focus. Fewer still could build it. But no one can truly understand it.
  • Clara is more cunning than I thought. She stole my brother's glory—stole a fortune that wasn't hers.
  • When the Town dies, Simon's murderer will be holding the blade. That much is certain.
  • Katerina shouldn't have cast Changeling out. Clara is her true successor. Her own daughter couldn't have been closer.
  • My path was called '"Necrology."' Few can survive the trial of death… I did everything I could so that a handful might pass the test.
