Dead Gruel is a type of antibiotic in Pathologic made by brewing Twyrine Extracts and organs in the Haruspex's Lair. Dead Gruel lowers infection and damages health a variable amount depending on the ingredients used.

It can be used to treat infection by the Plague and can only be made and obtained by the Haruspex.

Quotes

Crude Sprawl, as of 2-30: 51 sick, 217 deceased, no one uninfected.

Did not contract after taking "petrel formula": myself, Uprin, Rubin.

Contracted after taking "quick brew": Obodn., Nurkh., Bodea

Cured with "dead gruel": Nurkh.

We call these primitive antibiotics "dead gruel". They enrich the blood with the antibodies required to fight the disease. This is not even close to a panacea, though. It will take a number of exceptionally fortunate coincidences for the dead gruel to clear the infection completely
Isidor Burakh's Diaries. An Extract About "Dead Gruel" [p.41]

Description

Dead Gruel can be made with any blood or organs that the Haruspex obtains with any Twyrine Extract. However, if healthy organs or blood is used, the resulting Dead Gruel will not be able to reduce infection or affect immunity, and will only do health damage.

The effects of Dead Gruel depends on the Twyrine Extract that was used to make it. Dead Gruel will reduce infection by the same amount that a Twyrine Extract would have increased immunity, with a cap of 97%. The amount of health damage will be the same as that of the parent Twyrine Extract.

Notes

  • In the original translation, Dead Gruel was called Dead Porridge.
  • Although this item can be spawned into the player inventory using console commands, it cannot be used due to its effects being determined at point of creation based off the parent Twyrine Extract that was used. Attempting to hover over a spawned Dead Gruel will prevent the player from interacting with their inventory with the exception of dropping items.
