The Rifle is a ranged Weapon in Pathologic 2. It shoots Rifle Ammo, and can hold up to 5 shots. It's the most accurate and longest-ranged weapon in the game, and is capable of taking down enemies from far away with a single shot if maintained in good condition. Its major drawbacks are the reload and jam animations, both of which are very slow. As with all other firearms, the Rifle's bullet accuracy increases when aimed down sights.
Occasionally, Rifles and rifle ammo can be looted from the corpses of Army soldiers, who appear throughout the town starting on Day 9. While the soldiers are not easy to dispatch in a fair fight, they can be worn down by successive bandit attacks, and otherwise backstabbed to death if alone.
The Haruspex can also obtain a Rifle in perfect condition plus a good supply of ammunition from a crate in the westernmost Army camp on Day 11, where the Changeling may also be found.
Rifles can be sold to Bad Grief and traded to Militia.
While it appears that the game files intend for the Rifle to deal 90 damage by per bodyshot and 150 damage per headshot, its actual damage is 290 & 350 respectively when fired by the Haruspex. Rifles fired by Army soldiers appear to deal the the intended damage. Each shot decreases durability by 5%. The chance of jamming is (1 - durability)2.

I've held such a rifle in my hands only once before. I'd prefer to not think about that day. | Item is not present in The Marble Nest. | Item is not present in the Alpha. |

Notes
- The Rifle is based off the Karabiner 98K, as the in-game files refer to it and its associated items, such as ammunition, as "Mauser_K98". [1]
- Interestingly, the certainty of the make of the Rifle is one of few things that are able to date the anachronistic nature of Pathologic, as the rifle was utilized by German troops during World War II.
- Rifles take up 2x5 inventory slots. They do not stack.
