Twyrine is a drug in Pathologic 2. It can be bought from the Broken Heart, Pharmacies, or Var (who sells Twyrine at a 10% discount), traded from the Dead Item Shop, and can also be looted from bodies and containers.

When consumed by the player, Twyrine creates a new map marker that will lead to events, points of interest, or rare children's caches (which can contain Shmowder, unlike normal caches- the details of which can be read on their respective page). If there are no relevant points of interest identify on the map, then Twyrine's hover quote will take on the additional line, "But the town is currently quiet. I should try later."

Additionally, consuming Twyrine increases player immunity by 12.5%, but also increases thirst by 30%, increases hunger by 10%, and increases exhaustion by 5%. The player will also experience temporary visual and auditory distortions.

During Prophylaxis, Twyrine can be administered to patients to increase their immunity by 10%, making it the weakest of all available immunity boosters.

Twyrine is a drink that has long been made out of the twyre of the Steppe. Although it has become fashionable outside of the Steppe, it is not possible to standardize recipes for the making of Twyrine. Additionally, the recipes are closely guarded by the Kin, though some locals such as Bad Grief and Andrey Stamatin look to create their own recipes to sell. These illegitimate variations are referred to as “black twyrine”.

The Town calls to me. But it's hard to hear over my own thoughts. If I quiet them down, I can sense the pulse of life all over the Town. Item is not present in The Marble Nest. The town speaks. It calls to me. But it's hard to hear it over the rustle of my own thoughts. When they're shushed, though, one can sense the pulse of life all over the village.

Notes

  • Twyrine takes up 2x1 inventory slots. It can stack up to 5.
  • One of Twyrine's spiral map markers leads to Var's place, but due to a bug, there is no coinciding event to go with it. As such, entering Var's place and attempting to speak to both Var and his Chemist will not make the map marker go away.
  • * If the player has found all relevant points of interest for the day -- such as events and Children's Caches -- consuming additional Twyrine will reveal no further points of interest on the map. If this is the case, then extra text will be appended to the end of its normal hover description ("But the town is currently quiet. I should try later."). However, the other visual and auditory effects will still occur.

Twyrine is a type of drug found in Pathologic. As its description would suggest, it essentially fills both the function of a light painkiller as well as an immunity booster. Similarly, a high intake may negatively impact the player's health.

Upon immediate ingestion, one bottle of Twyrine will increase both exhaustion and immunity by 5 points.

It is created from twyre herbs and it can be purchased in Andrey Stamatin's Pub and in Bad Grief's Lair. The recipe and origin of Twyrine is closely guarded within the Kin. Despite this, people such as Bad Grief and Andrey Stamatin manufacture and sell Twyrine on their own, much to the Kin's dismay.

Of Some Peculiaruties Of The Method Of Brewing Twyrin

Viscous twyrin, drunken twyrin, smoky twyrin, gray and green, black, bloody, brown and rusty twyrin… What a great amount of tears and blood were shed because of this drink, and how much is yet to be shed… Similar to the western absenter, but more complex, more ancient and deeper, it like no other drink gives an unrecognizable distortion of reality. It also has a similar history to the one of absenter. First it was the drink of beggars, some barely literate steppe inhabitants, who understood the howling of their bulls better than human speech. Gradually, it was discovered by the aesthetes and rich eccentric people, and there, it is being collected, tasted at prestigious saloons and pharmacies sell it in silver thimbles as an expensive poison.

People collected numerous recipes, compiled encyclopedias dedicated to the different methods of brewing twyrin and preparing herbs. Some enthusiasts even arranged expeditions to the Steppe to infiltrate the Kin and learn the secret techniques of making the drink. The problem is that the twyrin made by herb gatherers is always going to be different from the one made according to a written recipe, no matter what kind of a drink is being brewed.

Every bottle of twyrin is unique. The ability to distort reality and the different details to the effects depend on every tiny grass that was used for brewing the drink. Some mystics think that the herb gatherers give a name to each twyre root they find in the Steppe. The gatherers memorize these places and walk round them at a certain time to pick the roots. Some are picked as soon as they are born, some at certain days. They wait for the proper crop for several years in some cases.

A lot not only depends on how the herbs are picked, but also on how they grow. “Twyre is pain of the Steppe” – so says the Kin ('huung twyrat ag agyl'). They believe that the juice that runs in the depths is the juice of the ancient gods, buried underneath the layers of clay, sand and fertile soil, and that twyre is the herb that absorbs all the juice before any other can. The people of the Steppe also think that twyre imbibes the pain of its time – the inspiration, the expectation of forthcoming changes, fear, the smell of war and the spirit of the people. Different twyre takes in different things, for example the bloody twyre is the kindest and most compassionate, regardless of its name, the brown is the most awful, the black has a feeling of anguish about it, and the rusty has a special memory of archaic history.

It is these details that determine the features and abilities of every drink, and not the proportions in which the spirit should be added, the choice of water and the mixing brews.[1]

Notes

  • The Odonghe in the outskirts of town are visibly angered by the retailing of Twyrine within the town, specifically at Andrey Stamatin's Pub. As the Odonghe describe it, they killed their brethren who sold Twyrine to Andrey Stamatin.
  • Despite Patrolmen's trades usually being limited to illegal items, such as crowbars or razors, they will trade Twyrine with the player. In the Haruspex route, it is revealed that Patrolmen in infected districts drink of twyre solutions and elixirs fervently, which is likely the reason for them coveting the item in trade.

A valuable immunity boosting infusion made of several herbs. Its effect heavily depends on random factors: the types of herbs, the time and place the herbs were gathered, the composition of the herb mix. If all the factors are favorable, it's possible to prepare an infusion that greatly increases immunity and inflicts almost no damage to health.

Notes

  • Although this item can be spawned into the player inventory using console commands, it cannot be used due to its effects being determined at point of creation based off the herbs that were used. Attempting to hover over a spawned Twyrine Extract will prevent the player from interacting with their inventory with the exception of dropping items.
